Bras...

Let me start by saying that post surgery bras are quickly becoming the bane of my existence. At my first appointment my nurse said to just get a front opening sports bra that fit my band size since that wouldn't change. She said don't spend a lot cause they will get stained and just be for recovery. So, I hopped online after that appt and found a Facebook group for breast reductions. It's been an amazing resource in seeing before and afters and asking questions. Just tonight I posted about what supplies I needed to round up and got so much great feedback. I love that page. Anyways, back to the bras.. I ordered two from Amazon that were like $8 and had good reviews. Just your basic clasp front cotton bras. I got one in 44- my current band size and one in 46 because the review said it ran small.

Fast forward to my Pre op appt. The other nurse says I need a bra that will fit me right now because after surgery I will have padding and swelling so I need it to zip up now to ensure it fits. Most surgery centers give you a post op bra but I guess this one doesn't..so I have to bring my own. The pressure was on! I had also at this point acquired another zip up bra at Walmart that someone posted in my group and said they loved. After that appt I went back on Amazon and ordered three more basic cotton bras like the first two. So now I have 1-44 band, 3-46 band and just in case I got a 48! Plus my Walmart bra that was a 2x?

Once all my bras arrived I set out to try them on to see which would go to surgery with me. I found out that the 44 was kind of loose around but not big enough to contain my girls. So I tried the 46. Way too loose but could work. Then I tried the Walmart bra. It was tight and I had cleavage for days. Don't worry I took before shots in all of them. So I decided to keep three... The 44/46 and Walmart. Now I need to ship the other three back.

The story doesn't end there. Now I'm panicked to find a legit surgical bra online because I will be asleep when they dress me so I want to make their lives easier  too..  So I scour Amazon and since I'm overweight alot of the bands stop at 4o-42. I take to Google and ask what's the best post reduction bra? It comes back on livestrong two different brands. One I had just checked out the page on and get this...They are located in Lenexa KS! For those that aren't familiar that is the  next town north of Olathe. This bra is far more expensive but has all the seams on the outside and lots of adjusters on the straps, front and even on the back.. Maybe for drains? So I got it! I have yet to try that one. Then tonight I bought a 2 pk on Amazon with good reviews for $10 so overall.. I have bought 9 front closing bras! What a spazz I am. I hope one works.lol if I never have to buy another bra it will be too soon. I will be sending back the ones that aren't workable and can't wait to take my after photos in each of them! Yay! 10 days!! Oh I had to stop aleve, aspirin, herbs today too. Yay for tylenol

Insurance

A week after my consult I got a voicemail from my surgeons nurse that said my Insurance has approved this surgery! I was so excited but also amazed at how quickly that went through. According to my nurse, my insurance company deems it medically necessary if you need at least 500 grams removed. If you read my first post, you'll remember the Dr said I'd need 1000 grams. I waited over the weekend to call back because I needed time to process this info with it all being so sudden. It was also Thanksgiving week and I had company coming to town. So, I put it on the back burner. I called the office Monday after Thanksgiving and we scheduled my surgery. January 31st! It is an outpatient procedure. It takes 2.5-3 hours and then one hr of observation after. I need Nathan to drive me and be home for the first two days. I won't be allowed to lift more than 5 lbs for about 4-6 weeks. I won't be able to drive for 10-14 days. I will have drains under my skin on each side to let the...

Surgery

I haven’t been on in a while but I wanted to update what happened with my surgery! We arrived at 11:45am for. 1:15 surgery time. I had to fast from midnight the night before, I could take an anti anxiety pill with one cup of water before 9:30 and that was it. We got there and checked in. I paid my copay which was pretty much my deductible since it’s January! Then we were called back in a little area that was curtained off with a hospital bed. I got my gown on and IV put in. No catheter! Thank you Jesus! Then we waited... it felt like forever, during that time my head anesthesiologists came by we talked about my many irrational fears (which they all reassured me would not happen) and then they asked if I had any issues with motion sickness. I said yes, and they gave me a nausea patch behind my ear (I wore it for three days) During the wait, I went to the bathroom twice with my saline bag because I get the nervous pee’s. Finally, my doctor arrived! a bit late but, ready to go! She pu...

Pre-Op Appointment

Hi friends! This week I had my pre op appt. I was extremely nervous and spent the night before jotting down any and every question I could think of into my notes app on my iPhone. I had no idea what to expect, except they told me I would be signing forms and getting some prescriptions. When I got in there the nurse handed me a stapled stack of papers that I had to read through, front and back, and initial each page. It listed every complication or side effect possible along with instructions and answered a lot of the surgery type questions. But not much of the recovery questions I had. back to the nurse.... she told me to get undressed from the waist up and put on the gown she laid out and the Dr. would be in and left the room. I was overwhelmed, I took out my glasses to read this booklet and took out my own mini notebook to jot things down as I read through this. The doctor and nurse arrived back in the office before I was done and they had my headless glamour shots with them. The Dr ...
