Pre-Op Appointment

Hi friends! This week I had my pre op appt. I was extremely nervous and spent the night before jotting down any and every question I could think of into my notes app on my iPhone. I had no idea what to expect, except they told me I would be signing forms and getting some prescriptions. When I got in there the nurse handed me a stapled stack of papers that I had to read through, front and back, and initial each page. It listed every complication or side effect possible along with instructions and answered a lot of the surgery type questions. But not much of the recovery questions I had. back to the nurse.... she told me to get undressed from the waist up and put on the gown she laid out and the Dr. would be in and left the room. I was overwhelmed, I took out my glasses to read this booklet and took out my own mini notebook to jot things down as I read through this. The doctor and nurse arrived back in the office before I was done and they had my headless glamour shots with them. The Dr said, is this you? And motioned to the photos. I could barely see them so I said, probably? She started to draw on the black and white print outs over my existing boobs of where she would put them. She asked if it looked good? Honestly, anything would look better than what I have so, I said yes! Then she asked me to hop up on the table so she can get a look again. She lifted one, I only exposed one hahahaha and scrunched it up in her hand to show how it would be and then explained where the nipple would be placed and how she determined that spot. I joked not to go too high I don’t want any nip slips! They both remarked how my photos don’t do justice to just how BIG my boobs are. I was like, thanks? Of course they can’t tell you an after size because they won’t know until they get in there. After the exam she was ready to leave and said do you have any questions? I paused and then remembered my list in my phone so, I jumped up to get it. She stepped back from the door and awaited my questions. That might be a whole other post. She answered them all and reassured me with her confidence and energy that this was no new thing for her to do and I was in good hands. Then she quickly left and the nurse stayed to go over the prescriptions they would give me.

I got three, one for pain, zofran for nausea and an antibacterial body wash that I need to use for five days leading up to surgery. I asked her how many of these does she do on average. She said three a week. One week they did seven! They have this down to a science. She took my booklet of signatures and left to get my scripts printed. Another nurse came back in and gave me the scripts and we talked for a minute about bras, which is another post too! And then I was done! I had all three prescriptions and instructions of how to prep my body starting at 10 days beforehand. I have to stop taking any NSAIDS and anything that can cause me to bleed more than normal during surgery. I set up my post op appt for the next morning after surgery where they said they will check my drains and take them out or keep them in depending on how much collects in my drains. There was no discussion of payment but I did get instructions on how to pre register at the surgery center. I will be at Shawnee mission surgery center. I believe it’s next door to the hospital which is where Avery was born! I am going to wrap this up for now because my hand is cramping up. Thanks for reading!

Insurance

A week after my consult I got a voicemail from my surgeons nurse that said my Insurance has approved this surgery! I was so excited but also amazed at how quickly that went through. According to my nurse, my insurance company deems it medically necessary if you need at least 500 grams removed. If you read my first post, you'll remember the Dr said I'd need 1000 grams. I waited over the weekend to call back because I needed time to process this info with it all being so sudden. It was also Thanksgiving week and I had company coming to town. So, I put it on the back burner. I called the office Monday after Thanksgiving and we scheduled my surgery. January 31st! It is an outpatient procedure. It takes 2.5-3 hours and then one hr of observation after. I need Nathan to drive me and be home for the first two days. I won't be allowed to lift more than 5 lbs for about 4-6 weeks. I won't be able to drive for 10-14 days. I will have drains under my skin on each side to let the...

Surgery

I haven’t been on in a while but I wanted to update what happened with my surgery! We arrived at 11:45am for. 1:15 surgery time. I had to fast from midnight the night before, I could take an anti anxiety pill with one cup of water before 9:30 and that was it. We got there and checked in. I paid my copay which was pretty much my deductible since it’s January! Then we were called back in a little area that was curtained off with a hospital bed. I got my gown on and IV put in. No catheter! Thank you Jesus! Then we waited... it felt like forever, during that time my head anesthesiologists came by we talked about my many irrational fears (which they all reassured me would not happen) and then they asked if I had any issues with motion sickness. I said yes, and they gave me a nausea patch behind my ear (I wore it for three days) During the wait, I went to the bathroom twice with my saline bag because I get the nervous pee’s. Finally, my doctor arrived! a bit late but, ready to go! She pu...
