Surgery

I haven’t been on in a while but I wanted to update what happened with my surgery! We arrived at 11:45am for. 1:15 surgery time. I had to fast from midnight the night before, I could take an anti anxiety pill with one cup of water before 9:30 and that was it. We got there and checked in. I paid my copay which was pretty much my deductible since it’s January! Then we were called back in a little area that was curtained off with a hospital bed. I got my gown on and IV put in. No catheter! Thank you Jesus! Then we waited... it felt like forever, during that time my head anesthesiologists came by we talked about my many irrational fears (which they all reassured me would not happen) and then they asked if I had any issues with motion sickness. I said yes, and they gave me a nausea patch behind my ear (I wore it for three days) During the wait, I went to the bathroom twice with my saline bag because I get the nervous pee’s. Finally, my doctor arrived! a bit late but, ready to go! She pu...

Bras...

Let me start by saying that post surgery bras are quickly becoming the bane of my existence. At my first appointment my nurse said to just get a front opening sports bra that fit my band size since that wouldn't change. She said don't spend a lot cause they will get stained and just be for recovery. So, I hopped online after that appt and found a Facebook group for breast reductions. It's been an amazing resource in seeing before and afters and asking questions. Just tonight I posted about what supplies I needed to round up and got so much great feedback. I love that page. Anyways, back to the bras.. I ordered two from Amazon that were like $8 and had good reviews. Just your basic clasp front cotton bras. I got one in 44- my current band size and one in 46 because the review said it ran small. Fast forward to my Pre op appt. The other nurse says I need a bra that will fit me right now because after surgery I will have padding and swelling so I need it to zip up now to e...

Pre-Op Appointment

Hi friends! This week I had my pre op appt. I was extremely nervous and spent the night before jotting down any and every question I could think of into my notes app on my iPhone. I had no idea what to expect, except they told me I would be signing forms and getting some prescriptions. When I got in there the nurse handed me a stapled stack of papers that I had to read through, front and back, and initial each page. It listed every complication or side effect possible along with instructions and answered a lot of the surgery type questions. But not much of the recovery questions I had. back to the nurse.... she told me to get undressed from the waist up and put on the gown she laid out and the Dr. would be in and left the room. I was overwhelmed, I took out my glasses to read this booklet and took out my own mini notebook to jot things down as I read through this. The doctor and nurse arrived back in the office before I was done and they had my headless glamour shots with them. The Dr ...

Countdown is on. Pre surgery Prep

I am officially counting down the days until surgery!( 24) I am equal  parts excited and terrified. Nightly, my anxiety flares and attacks me once I lay in bed. I have come to realize I’m having the same Groundhog Day like discussion with my husband. It goes something like this... Me: I’m really scared, am I making a bad choice? Him: no sweetie, I don’t think you realize how much of a quality of life change this will be for you! Me: but what if I die? Him: you’ve been put under before and been fine Me: what if I wake up during it? Him: that’s why anesthetiologists get paid a lot of money. They know what they are doing Me: what if I have an unknown heart condition or my body goes into shock Him: again, you’ve been put under before Me: true... but what if I get super depressed from resting for weeks after Him: you have lots of Netflix and it’s only temporary rest for a lifelong benefit Me: you’re right, I should focus on the positive like wearing swimsuits that don’t cu...

Insurance

A week after my consult I got a voicemail from my surgeons nurse that said my Insurance has approved this surgery! I was so excited but also amazed at how quickly that went through. According to my nurse, my insurance company deems it medically necessary if you need at least 500 grams removed. If you read my first post, you'll remember the Dr said I'd need 1000 grams. I waited over the weekend to call back because I needed time to process this info with it all being so sudden. It was also Thanksgiving week and I had company coming to town. So, I put it on the back burner. I called the office Monday after Thanksgiving and we scheduled my surgery. January 31st! It is an outpatient procedure. It takes 2.5-3 hours and then one hr of observation after. I need Nathan to drive me and be home for the first two days. I won't be allowed to lift more than 5 lbs for about 4-6 weeks. I won't be able to drive for 10-14 days. I will have drains under my skin on each side to let the...

My consult

I've been researching breast reduction surgery for years. When I met my husband I told Him one day I would have one. The last few years I've contacted a few doctors but never went to a consultation. I chickened out, I thought they'd make me lose a bunch of weight first and laugh me out. I was talking to my chiropractors assistant, whom I've known since 2006. She saw me at a healthy weight and now that I am overweight. She told me there was a really good Dr. That helps get women approved through insurance and her friend had used. I got the info and thought about it for a while. Still nervous to go in and show a stranger what I'm working, that is scary!! But after talking to my husband he encouraged me that I just go see what they have to say. He sees me day in and out and my struggle with my weight and my back/ neck pain. So, I listened and scheduled my appointment. I went in the afternoon after work, when I was still working full time. They had me put on a gown ba...
